Seems like it's been a long time since I last wrote. I'm usually engrossed in a knitting project, at least enough to mention it (and whatever problems I'm having with it) but I'm pretty close to being project-less! Now, this doesn't mean that I have finished everything that I have on the needles. There are a couple things that have died an early death. One may be rescuscitated, I'm not sure. But since I'm about to knit button bands on Knotty, weave in a gazillion ends, block it and wear it with pride, I hope, I'm feeling a sense of freedom from knitting obligations. I'm busily making a little knitting studio in the loft over our bedroom. Somehow it makes sense to me to separate it from the rest of my creative endeavors. I've got a chair up there, and loads of yarn, and Esmerelda. Esmerelda is a dress form molded from me. Really it seems like a gargantuan version of me, but apparently that's what I look like. Anyway, she is named after a mannequin that some prankster left on my grandma's lawn with all the details drawn in. My grandma, never one to throw anything out, brought her in, cleaned her up, dressed her nattily, and named her. For awhile she lived just inside the doorway to the dining room, where her outstretched arm with gloved hand would make you jump out of your skin until you realized that it was just 'the dummy'.
So my Esmerelda is supposed to aid me in my efforts to concoct knitted garments. So far there's not much action up there, other than the cat vomiting strenuously from time to time.
We've had a string of knitting celebs pass through the shop, but I don't want to be totally uncool and gush about them. Let's just say I was sort of speechless, at first anyway. I think it impressed the hell out of the class that was going on. Of course afterwards I wished I'd been sporting some divine creation of my own design, rather than an old hoodie.
Must go. More later.
